Updates have been made to the Community Investment Program (CIP) that distributes grant funding to eligible community-based non-profit organizations.
Council approved the amendments to the CIP policy during their council meeting on Monday, Oct. 1, 2018. The new CIP aligns more with the 2018-2021 RMWB Strategic Plan, makes council more accountable for the grants and allows for more transparency.
As part of the annual budget process, council will approve all CIP funding. If needed council can approve the maximum amount of grant funding or exceed it.
The CIP will continue to offer the Games Legacy Grant, Community Capital Grant and Community Plan on Homelessness Grant and is introducing the new Sustaining Grant and Community Impact Grant.
The Sustaining Grant provides funding to organizations that operate and maintain recreation facilities owned by the Municipality and is replacing components of the Community Operating Grant.
The Community Impact Grant provides funding to organizations that meet community needs and contribute toward the strategic priorities identified in the RMWB 2018 – 2021 Strategic Plan. This grant will have three categories streams or that will limit the maximum amount of funding organizations may receive from each stream. Applicants will be able to apply for funding from each of the following steams:
- Community Programs and Projects- $100,000 maximum
- Community Events – $20,000 maximum
- New Events – $50,000 maximum, with a declining proportion of funding available for a maximum of three years.
A public information session on the new grants and application process will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 17 from 3 p.m. – 8 p.m. at the McMurray Experience with sessions to be held in the rural communities at a later date, yet to be determined.
Applications are now being accepted for the Games Legacy Grant and the the Community Impact Grant until Friday, Nov. 16.
The Games Legacy Grant is for organizations that help fund athletes and performers competing or training at a provincial, national or international level. Individual applicants may apply for grant funding up to a maximum of $1,500 and team or group applicants may apply for a maximum of $3,000.
