Downtown law enforcement continues, 13 more arrests executed

The Wood Buffalo RCMP and their Crime Reduction Unit (CRU) have continued their Alberta RCMP initiative and crime reduction strategy by targeting downtown Fort McMurray.

In August 19 warrants of arrest were executed and 19 criminal code of Canada charges were laid included seven breaches.

In September 13 warrant of arrest were execute and six individuals were charged with 15 breaches.

Over 70 compliance checkers were done on repeat offenders to ensure court orders are being met and as a result, seven charges were laid on individuals found failing to comply with conditions imposed by court.

Additional patrols of high crime areas led to criminal investigations including drug possession, impaired by drug, possession for the purpose of trafficking and possession of property obtained by crime investigations.

The CRU also worked with downtown store employees and enhanced their presence as part of their efforts to make the area safer.

The RCMP and the CRU continue to provide service to the whole Municipality.
