One place you’ll be allowed to take your cannabis after legalization is an airplane, as long as you are flying within Canada.

Air travellers can carry up to 30 grams of dried cannabis in carry-on or checked luggage on domestic flights.

However, officials warn you need to be careful if going on an international flight.

That even includes flights to other countries where cannabis is legal.

Cannabis will continue to remain illegal to take across Canada’s national borders, whether you are entering or leaving Canada. This remains a serious criminal offence subject to arrest and prosecution.

The Fort McMurray Airport Authority’s policy on cannabis will follow the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo’s Smoking and Vaping Bylaw no. 18/022.

The smoking of cannabis is is prohibited on airport property. This includes the areas outside the terminal building designated for tobacco smoking or vaping.

Regulations around travelling while impaired have not changed and if there is a reason to believe a passenger impaired by alcohol or drugs, prior to boarding a flight, airline staff may deny boarding to that passenger who will be respnsible for additional costs incurred as a result.
