Companies reporting major news:

MEG Energy Corp. (TSX:MEG). The Calgary-based oilsands company’s shares closed up in choppy trading Thursday after it formally rejected a $3.3-billion hostile takeover offer from oilsands rival Husky Energy Inc. The target company said after markets closed Wednesday that the Husky offer is opportunistic and undervalues its assets and prospects, adding it intends to conduct a formal process that could identify a white knight to make a better offer.

Aurora Cannabis Inc. (TSX:ACB). The marijuana company’s shares will begin trading on the New York Stock Exchange on Oct. 23 under the same ACB ticket symbol on the Toronto Stock Exchange. Aurora chief executive Terry Booth called the U.S. listing an important milestone. Shares in the company soared last month following a report by BNN Bloomberg that it was in talks with Coca-Cola Co. to develop pot-infused drinks. However, Aurora said at the time that while it does engage in exploratory talks from time to time, there was no deal to announce.

Aphria Inc. (TSX:WEED). The cannabis producer has applied to list its common shares on the New York Stock Exchange. An Aphria spokeswoman says the company will provide details such as its anticipated trading date and ticker symbol when available and after it receives the required approvals.
