The Government of Alberta has made $4.5 million available for programs that offer assistance to victims of crime.

Of the $4.5 million, $1.1 million will go toward police-based victim service units.

The Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo already had funding increase after the 2016 wildfire and now will see an additional increase from $265,000 to $300,000.

“Albertans affected by crime deserve to feel supported and respected during an incredibly difficult time. These funds will ensure programs and services can continue to support victims of crime when and where they need it. I commend the staff and volunteers who do this important work day in and day out,” said Kathleen Ganley, Minister of Justice and Solicitor General.

The money will also go towards helping domestic violence survivors, helping people in court, restorative justice initiatives and expanding outreach for Indigenous victims.
