FireSmart vegetation management projects will take place throughout the region this fall to reduce the risk of wildfires.

A total of 200 hectares of municipal land will be treats in Anzac, Conklin, Fort Chipewyan and in areas along the Birchwood Trail System.

Crews will remove all dead, down and unhealthy trees, and prune and thin evergreen trees in these areas and will focus on reducing surface fuels in densely forested areas.

As part of the projects supervised burns will take place to dispose of the debris. Efforts will be made to minimize smoke during this process and signage will be posted in work site areas to alert of potential smoke.

Timber for firewood may be available from some of the projects and information for collection will be posted on the Municipality’s website and social media pages.

Information will also be posted on the work being done on the Birchwood Trail System, which may see temporary trail closure during the project.

More information about these projects and the FireSmart activity taking place in the region is also posted on the Municipality’s website.
