Empty bottles raised around $23,000 on Oct. 19 in support of the Fort McMurray Firefighters Association.

Ten bottles were auctioned off to be filled with The Beast Whisky, made by Wood Buffalo Brewing Company, from malt that was exposed to the 2016 wildfire.

The money raised will be split among Centre of Hope, Fort McMurray Boys & Girls Club, Waypoints, Wood Buffalo Food Bank and the Fort McMurray SPCA.

Scott Germain, who sits on the Fort McMurray Firefighters Association Charity Committee said they’re excited about this year’s total.

“This year we know we’re going to be over about $110,000 to $120,000. That’s probably the most we’ve ever had to give out.”

He said each of the bottles was auctioned off for between $2000 and $3500.

This year was the third annual auction for the whisk, bringing the auction total to over $100,000.
