Two Fort McMurray men arrested, drugs seized

The Wood Buffalo RCMP have arrested and charged two Fort McMurray men after the Crime Reduction Unit executed a search warrant and seized controlled substances from a downtown residence on Oct. 5, 2018 around 4 p.m.

The residence was located near Ells Crescent and Biggs Avenue where RCMP seized over 500 pills of oxycodone, morphine, fentanyl and 12 grams of methamphetamine along with seven grams of suspected cocaine, drug paraphernalia and two rifles with ammunition.

“The execution of this search warrant, arrests and seizure of drugs and firearms is an excellent example of the kind of results we get from our intelligence-led approach to policing and crime reduction strategy”, stated Inspector Eric Stebenne, Operations Officer at Wood Buffalo Detachment, in a press release.

Darren Andrew Lewis, 36, was charged with four counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking, possession of cannabis, two counts of unauthorized possession of a firearm and two counts of unsafe storage of firearms.  His next court appearance will be on Oct. 30, 2018.

Michael John Komenda, 28, was charged the same as Lewis with an additional possession for the purpose of trafficking charge. His next court appearance will be on Nov. 27, 2018.
