Laila Goodridge won the nomination for the United Conservative Party in the new Fort McMurray-Lac La Biche riding on Friday.

Goodridge was elected as MLA of Fort McMurray-Conklin in July, though the NDP has changed the boundaries to create the new riding for the provincial election.

Over 900 UCP members voted to give Goodridge the lead against Gail Broadbent-Ludwig and Allan Grandison, giving her two wins in six months.

Goodridge said she had a fantastic team supporting her and thanked both Broadbent-Ludwig and Grandison.

“It truly was inspiring to see so many people get out to vote in this nomination and exercise their free will and democratic right.”

In a statement United Conservative Leader Jason Kenney referred to Goodridge as a “strong, talented young woman with an incredible passion for serving Albertans.”

Since she was elected as the region’s MLA, Goodridge has become Critic for Seniors, Housing and Multiculturalism.

She will take her seat in legislature Monday afternoon.
