Fort McMurray still feeling impacts from wildfire

PHOTO. In an interview with CityNews, Fort McMurray resident, Sheila Champion shares her story and struggle with rebuilding after the 2016 Horse River wildfire dubbed "the beast."

Almost 3 years after “The Beast,” there’s still trauma for those who faced the Fort McMurray wildfire. From financial troubles in the rebuild, to post traumatic stress, and although the Municipality announced $6 million in relief funding, it won’t help everyone who is directly impacted. Secondary homes or rental properties are not part of the eligibility criteria for financial recovery assistance.

Those struggling are encouraged to reach out to the Canadian Red Cross by calling 1-888-553-5505 or Some Other Solutions, (780) 743-8605.
