Safe Community Wood Buffalo will remember victims of road collisions and spread road safety awareness on Nov. 21.

The third Wednesday of November marks National Day of Remembrance for Road Crash Victims, honouring and remembering those impacted.

Gayle St. Denis, executive director of Safe Community Wood Buffalo said the day is about injury prevention and road safety.

“This is just a day that we want to commemorate for people that have been injured or people that have lost loved ones due to road crashes and just to provide more information about how to prevent collisions, whether it’s road conditions or driving error, being influenced by alcohol or drugs. It’s all preventable.”

On average, five Canadians are killed in road collisions every day, with even more seriously injured.

Stories from some of those who have been impacted will be shared, as well as information from partner agencies including RCMP and Victim Services.

The event will be in the entrance to MacDonald Island between 4 p.m. and 8 p.m. on Nov. 21.
