RCMP and RMWB issue safety reminder when operating OHV's

Last Updated Nov 21, 2018 at 12:41 pm MDT

The Wood Buffalo RCMP and the Municipality are issuing a reminder to stay safe this winter season when operating Off Highway Vehicles.

It is prohibited to ride OHV’s in the urban service areas (USA) of Fort McMurray however The Snye, Abasand and Waterways are the three designated areas for off-loading OHV’s as they lead onto trails away from the USA.

The landscape in the region has changed since the 2016 wildfire and the trails have become affected. FireSmart initiatives have also cleared areas around the perimeter of Fort McMurray creating firebreaks however these areas are still prohibited from using OHV’s and violators can be fined. OHV trails are maintained by the Sno Drifters and a trail pass is required for use.

For more information or if you have any complaints of OHV use, contact Wood Buffalo RCMP at (780) 788-4000, or RMWB Bylaw Services at (780) 762-5858.
