Fort McMurray man fined over $6K for hunting-related offences

A $6,450 charge has been handed to a Fort McMurray man for various hunting related charges.

Donny Justin Lloyd was in Peace River Provincial Court on Nov. 15, where he pleaded guilty to hunting deer without a license, unlawful possession of an elk, and unlawful possession of an elk transported in contravention of the Wild Animal and Plant Protection and Regulation of International and Interprovincial Trade Act.

The charges are related to offences starting back on Oct. 11, 2015, when 6×6 elk antlers were brought into Alberta from B.C. without export permits or a B.C. license.

In November of the same year, Lloyd hunted and killed a white-tailed deer buck in Peace River. His second of the hunting season, while he was limited to only one.

The following February he was found to have elk parts without legal authority.

According to a statement from Alberta Fish and Wildlife Enforcement, Lloyd told his neighbour, an enforcement officer with Fish and Wildlife, about the violations. A series of photos and texts were also documented.

Along with the fine, he can’t hunt or hold a recreational hunting licence Canada-wide for a year.

The antlers of the white-tail deer killed in November, along with the elk antlers from B.C. were forfeited to the Crown.

Charges related to the Wildlife Act in B.C. are before the courts.
