Alert Ready to test emergency system on devices across Canada

Expect your cell phone, TV and radio to sound off Wednesday afternoon.

Alert Ready Emergency Alert System will sound off simultaneously across Canada to be sure that people receive these critical and potentially life-saving alerts.

Alerts are supposed to go off on compatible devices at 1:55 p.m. with the exception of Quebec where the test will be done at 2:55 p.m.

The first test in May faced several issues. Many wireless users didn’t receive the alert in Manitoba and Ontario while Quebec didn’t sound at all.

The CRTC requires 50 per cent of devices sold in Canada to be compatible with Alert Ready. After April compatibility will be a requirement for all devices for sale.
