The 26th annual Corporate Challenge raised $220,664 for the Wood Buffalo Food Bank (WBFB).

The one day radiothon, which is followed by the three-day Syncrude Food Bank Drive, was kicked off with an $85,000 donation from Syncrude.

Doreen Cole, Managing Director at Syncrude said it’s been supporting the food bank for more than 20 years with more than $500,000 donated.

Dan Edwards, Executive Director of the food bank said the Syncrude Food Bank Drive and Corporate Challenge brings in around 40 per cent of their annual donations.

“Without Syncrude’s support, the Food Drive would not be nearly as successful. We are so grateful they are alongside us every year as we fight hunger issues in our community.”

For 12 hours people called in making donations between $100 and $40,000 and challenging others to do the same.

This year, the Wood Buffalo Food Bank hopes to raise $350,000 and 85,000 lbs. of food.

Volunteers will be at grocery stores around town accepting food, cash and gift card donations between Nov. 30 and Dec. 2.
