Wood Buffalo RCMP are investigating into two break and enters that occurred at OPA! of Greece and Hu’s Pizza and Donairs just days apart.

Both locally owned and operated businesses had their store front doors completely smashed in and cash stolen from the register.

Lucretia Britt, owner of OPA! of Greece, located near Riedel Street and Manning Avenue, had at least $2100 in cash stolen.

“Unfortunately I had not been able to come to the store at night, I’ve hurt my shoulder, I was kind of just getting through the days and I had to go home which meant there was money in the store than there normally would have been,” said Britt. “He took the staff tips, the change bag, the floats, everythign and he did it all within 30 seconds.

Britt has sent security footage to the RCMP that shows the thief wearing all black with a distinctive patch on his jacket.

Hu MacLennan, owner of Hu’s pizza and Donairs, located on the corner of Franklin Avenue and Manning Avenue told MyMcMurray about his loss.

“It was over two-grand, most of it was in change cause I have the arcade games here so I had a big jug of loonies,” said MacLennan adding that the cash register float was also taken.

in addition to the damages and the money stolen, both restaurants also lost a full day of business.

The police are asking anyone  who may have seen anything unusual, to please contact the Wood Buffalo RCMP at 780-788-4040.

“We are actively investigating both incidents and we’re hoping the public can come forward with any information they may have,” said Constable Melanie Cappiello-Stebenne.

If anyone has any surveillance footage of any suspicious activity recorded, they are also being asked to share the video footage with police.
