Mark Andrew Tremblay, 29, is facing numerous charges after leading Wood Buffalo RCMP on a late night chase on Highway 881.

On Dec. 8, 2018 around 11:30 p.m. the RCMP were responding to a reported theft of a truck from a business in Gregoire when the vehicle was located travelling south along the highway.

A traffic-stop was imitated near the Janvier First Nations Reserve but the vehicle failed to stop.

RCMP were able to successfully deploy a spike belt to immobilize the vehicle.

Tremblay then fled on foot toward a wooded area, where he was eventually tracked with assistance by the Municipal Traffic Unit and Police Dog Services and taken into custody by the RCMP.

He was transported to hospital and treated for injuries sustained during the arrest.

“A collaborative effort from our officers led to a successful conclusion.” says Inspector Eric Stebenne, Operations Officer at Wood Buffalo Detachment. “The vehicle was recovered and the male was arrested preventing further offences from being committed.”

As a result Tremblay is now being charged with:

  • Operation of motor vehicle while being pursued by police
  • Theft of truck
  • Possession of property obtained by crime for the purpose of trafficking over $5000
  • Drive a vehicle on a highway at a speed greater than the speed limit, Traffic Safety Act

His next court appearance will be in Fort McMurray Provincial Court on Dec. 18, 2018.
