Alberta Senator Doug Black has a message for Quebec Premier Francois Legault: learn more about the energy industry.

In a letter penned to Legault, Black urged the premier to visit Alberta and see the oil and gas sector firsthand.

Last week, Legault said there was no social acceptability for a pipeline in his province.

“It’s rich coming from a guy who is importing hundreds of thousands of barrels a day from Saudi Arabia,” Black said.

Legault made the comment after New Brunswick Premier Blaine Higgs said that, someday, a pipeline would be built to bring western crude oil to ports in his region for transport overseas.

Black said he invited Legault to visit Alberta and see things for himself.

“I steamed, like a lot of Albertans, for two or three days,” Black said. “And then I thought, ‘look, the guy doesn’t get it.’ So rather than throwing stones, let’s open the door and say come on over.”

Black’s letter was issued Friday. He is still awaiting a response.
