Mayor Don Scott and the newly-formed Wood Buffalo Economic Development Corporation (WBEDC) welcomed its first President and CEO, Mr. Kevin Weidlich on Dec. 19, 2019.

After a year-long search, Weidlich was selected by the Board of Directors for the WBEDC for having 30 years of experience in public services branding, marketing, and communications, along with an extensive military background.

When Weidlich learned about the opportunity to assume the role he jumped at the chance.

“This region is not only the economic engine of our country, it is a wonderful place to live, work, and invest. I am excited to start working with the team and delivering on results for the residents and taxpayers of RMWB,” said Weidlich.

Briefly touching on the wildfires and the recent economic downturn, Weidlich admitted the role would have many challenges, but he views this as an “important mission” and believes that by working together rebuilding is possible.

“This is exciting news for the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo. We look forward to working with Kevin and his team, and I am pleased to welcome him to our region and community,” said Mayor Don Scott.

Attracting new customers, helping grow and sustain business in the RMWB, and gaining new access to markets are some of the first things on Weidlich’s to-do list when he officially assumes the role from current interim CEO Brad Ferguson on Jan. 7, 2019.

Weidlich and his family will be moving from Edmonton, where he currently works as the senior leader with the Economic Development Corporation, and are excited to call Fort McMurray home.
