A large pro-pipeline rally and truck convoy caused massive delays along portions of the QEII Highway south of Edmonton on Wednesday.

Ahead of the rally, RCMP warned motorists to expect extremely long delays due to the size of the convoy.

Organizers said more than 2500 vehicles took part.

The convoy stretched for an astounding 22-kilometres.

Some media reports described drivers who were stuck on the highway as impatient and angry. Some motorists turned around by crossing the median.

The rally coincided with the arrival of federal Conservative Party leader Andrew Scheer, who was scheduled to speak at a townhall meeting.

Scheer told the crowd the $1.6-Billion aid package for the energy sector announced by the Trudeau government on Tuesday won’t help unemployed workers in the sector get back to work.
