RCMP encourages safe holiday season

While the forecast may be looking clear as we head into the holidays, Wood Buffalo RCMP is reminding drivers and pedestrians to be ready for variable weather and road conditions.

It’s especially important to pack a sleeping bag and a winter survival kit if you’re planning a trip out of town, but also remember to drive according to conditions.

Meanwhile, pedestrians should never assume that drivers will give the right of way when crossing the street. Avoid travelling along highways and roadways where there is no safe area for walking.

RCMP is also encouraging you to call a cab, friend or have a designated driver to make sure you get home safely after a night of celebrating and never get into a vehicle with a driver you think might be impaired.

If you suspect a driver is impaired, in your vehicle or another, make note of the license plate number and direction of travel and call 911.
