Devon Canada submits application for project near Conklin

Devon Canada Corporation has submitted an application to the Alberta Energy Regulator (AER) for a project south of town.

Devon has applied for approval to build, operate and reclaim the Pike 2 Project, which will use solvent-enhanced steam-assisted gravity drainage (SAGD).

The application is integrated between the Oil Sands Conservation Act (OSCA) and Environmental Protection and Enhancement Act (EPEA). It also includes an environmental impact assessment report.

If approved, construction of the project located about 35 km southeast of Conklin would start as early as 2022. It would produceĀ 69,400 barrels per day of crude.

Statements of Concern are being accepted by the AER until Feb. 18.
