The Fort McMurray Oil Barons announced forward Liam Izyk has committed to attend and play for the Chargers of the University of Alabama-Huntsville (UAH).

Originally from Strathmore, AB, the 20-year-old’s commitment with the NCAA Division 1 program will begin next season.

In over three seasons with the Oil Barons, Izyk registered 20 goals and 78 points in 123 games.

Tom Keca, the head coach and general manager for the Fort McMurray Oil Barons, called Izyk a “dynamic, two-way forward” and said the coaching staff is excited about the prospect’s future.

“He’s also a player that has battled through some adversity, having recovered from a significant, long-term ankle injury last season to record 25 points in 33 games so far this season. We wish him all the best with Alabama-Hunstville next year.”

The UAH Chargers play in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association conference (WCHA) in NCAA Men’s Hockey Division 1.
