Maui firefighters say a brush fire is mostly contained.
Officials say the Wailea fire is 60 per cent contained Monday after burning 200 acres (81 hectares). Winds that fanned the fast-moving fire have died down and a shelter for evacuations is closed.
Swirling winds estimated at 15 mph (24 kph) to 20 mph (32 kph) made conditions challenging for firefighters.
Officials say there are no injuries or property damage reported.
Guests were returning to the Hotel Wailea Monday after the fire prompted an evacuation Sunday. Spokeswoman Christy Stesky says the resort made arrangements for their guests to spend the night in area hotels.
The cause of the fire isn’t yet known.

Hotel Wailea spokeswoman Christy Stesky says resort operations are back to normal Monday morning.
Maui officials say the resort was evacuated Sunday when the brush fire threatened the hotel. Some area residents were also evacuated and later allowed to return to their homes.

More than 30 people, mostly tourists, went to a shelter. By Monday morning, a family of five remained in the shelter.
