RCMP say to register your ATVs, snowmobiles

Wood Buffalo RCMP and Bylaw services are reminding off-highway vehicle owners to register and insure their ATVs and snowmobiles.

25 ATVs and seven snowmobiles were stolen from Wood Buffalo homes and properties in 2018, and only seven ATVs were recovered.

Not only are registering and insuring your off-highway vehicle mandatory according to the Traffic Safety Act, but it assists law enforcement find your vehicle should it become lost or stolen.

Quick Tips:

  • Attach and display your registration plate and the corresponding sticker according to proper regulations.
  • Have a copy of all your OHV information filed at home in a secure spot (receipt of purchase, VIN or tunnel identification number, registration and insurance documents).
  • Keep a copy of your registration, insurance, and identification with you when riding, but don’t store in or on your OHV.
  • Securely lock your garage, shed, or sheltered place where you store your OHVs.
  • Take your keys with you when your OHV is not in use and secure it in a safe place.
