Shop local program tracked over $450-thousand spent in community

This past holiday season The Fort McMurray Chamber of Commerce Shop Local Passport program tracked over $449,000 spent at 31 participating businesses through the eight weeks of the program.

The annual program encourages residents to shop locally during the holidays for a chance to win McMurray Money prizes, which are a gift cards that are redeemable at participating local businesses.

“We are absolutely thrilled by the growth and support of this program,” said Alexis Foster, executive director for the Fort McMurray Chamber, in a press release.

“The Chamber understands that many of our members have had a difficult few years and we are delighted that this program has helped highlight the importance of shopping locally and supporting the great businesses we have in the region.”

In four years over $665,000 has been tracked through the program.
