United Way Community Campaign raises $4.6M

The United Way 2018 Community Campaign raised 92 per cent of it’s goal.

In November, the campaign had only reached 60 per cent, so it was extended until the end of the year.

Ken Sandmoen, Community Campaign Chair, said previously that they’d expected to fall short, projecting $4 million, which they exceeded.

“Even though we came in a little short of our goal this year, that isn’t from lack of community contributions, companies work, individual donations. A lot of people stepped up and did a lot of great things and we’re happy we got the 4.6.”

After they announced that the campaign would be extended, Sandmoen said the donations started to increase, and as usual, the people of Fort McMurray stepped up.

He added that although they haven’t calculated the total donations made through the Red Menu initiative, they had more establishments on board this year and are feeling optimistic.

The funds raised through the campaign will support 55 programs that help thousands of people in the region.
