2018 Census records RMWB population at 111,867

PHOTO. Supplied. RMWB. Census 2018 is the first census taken since the 2016 Horse River wildfire.

The official results of the 2018 Census recorded an overall population of 111,687 for the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo.

The census was conducted in the region between April 9 and July 31, 2018 using three data collection methods, including self-reported online enumeration, door-to-door interviews and telephone interviews.

It was the first census conduct after the 2016 wildfire and saw a decrease of 10.67 percent over the 2015 population of 125,032.

Taking into consideration the impacts of the wildfire the primary goal of Census 2018 was to get an accurate count of the regions permanent population, shadow population and housing stock.

The total permanent population is 75,009.

The total shadow population is 36,678, a 14.9 per cent decrease from the 2015 shadow population of 43,084.

A full report of the 2018 Municipal Census will be available later this year.
