Housing sales slow at year's end

2018 finished with a whimper and not a bang for the housing market in the region.

Fort McMurray Realtors (FMR) released their housing figures for theĀ final month of 2018, which typically isn’t the season for housing sales.

FMR reported the number of properties sold during the month was down almost 50 per cent and the average sale price was down by 5.5 per cent compared to the same period in 2017.

However, there were a few bright spots. As a whole, the number of sales for 2018 increased by 12 per cent compared to 2017, and for the month of December sales in apartment condominiums more than doubled the previous year.

The average sale price of mobile with land saw a significant increase as well, from $207,857 in November 2018 to $346,000 in December 2018. That’s an increase of over 60 per cent.

There are 582 current listings in Fort McMurray, Saprae Creek, Gregoire River, and Anzac.
