The Fort McMurray Minor Hockey Association issued a media release in response to a Snapchat video of members of the Midget A Team dancing in their dressing room.

The video depicts the players dancing to a popular song, Electric Pow Wow Drum by Indigenous band, A Tribe Called Red.

In light of the recent scandal of the states, many are saying the video inappropriate, and already over 70,000 have viewed it on Facebook.

Comments from the video accuse the players of being disrespectful and for that reason the FMMHA said in the statement that “Their actions are in no way indicative of our values or the values of any of our House League or Elite Stream Junior Oil Barons teams. It is wrong and will not be tolerated. The display of ignorance is sad and gravely unfortunate. “

The release, written by Travis Galenzoski, president of the FMMHA,  goes on to say that the organization will deal with the players quickly and that their “Our follow up will include but not solely involve, an educational aspect. These players will know how deeply impactful their wrong actions are.”

The players, whose names will not be released because they are minors, have also taken to social media in response, many whom are saying they themselves are Indigenous.
