World Hijab Day is back for its sixth year.

The event is an opportunity to ask questions and learn about the religion.

It’s open to everyone, but only women are invited to try on the Islamic headscarf known as a hijab.

“Our hijab is a symbol of our modesty, which is our honour, and both become our beauty. It is a choice we make with pride and joy daily. We invite you to stand with us, and share the sentiment,” said Kiran Malik-Khan, president and co-founder of the World Hijab Day Fort McMurray committee.

This year the event will take place in the student lounge area of Keyano College.

Malik-Khan said hosting the event at a “community hub like Keyano” shows a great community partnership.

The international day is celebrated on February 1st and will be hosted by around 190 countries this year.

Fort McMurray will celebrate on Feb. 2 from 1 until 3 p.m. with the program starting at 1:45 p.m.
