More significant snowfall expected overnight Thursday

Expect another significant snowfall later this week.

Kyle Fougere, a meteorologist with Environment Canada said we can expect another round of significant snowfall Thursday into Friday.

“The amount and how much is going to fall is going to depend on the exact track of the low, which is tough to pinpoint at this point, but it looks like it’s going to be significant, probably around 10 cm.”

He said a few “Alberta Clippers” will pass through the region bringing with it more snow.

An Alberta Clipper is a fast-moving weather system that originated in the sheltered side of the Rockies,

While we can’t accurately track the amount of snow that fell over the weekend, Fougere said the transition from freezing rain to snow on Saturday created the wet, heavy snow that’s unusual for the region.

Wood Buffalo RCMP is reminding drivers to slow down according to conditions and pedestrians to dress for variable weather conditions and be cautious of icy sections on pathways.
