Collisions more than double on icy Wood Buffalo roads

Wood Buffalo urge motorists to drive according to road conditions, after reporting several collisions in the region the morning of Feb. 12, 2019.

Wood Buffalo RCMP has experienced a busy couple of days with the region’s icy conditions.

Constable Justin Robertson with Wood Buffalo RCMP said they had a total of 17 collisions on Monday, noting other weekdays in January have seen an average of 7 or 8.

Between 8:30 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. police already had reports of 10 collisions.

While there’s no freezing rain in the forecast as of Tuesday afternoon, the roads are still icy.

Environment Canada is also warning of more significant snowfall Thursday into Friday.

Remember to give yourself extra time and drive according to the changing road conditions.
