The deadline to participate in the 2019 Oil Barons Dream Home Lottery is only a few days away, but tickets are still available.
The Fort McMurray Oil Barons are a community-sponsored Junior A hockey club. The dream home lottery is an annual fundraiser that supports the team and rewards one lucky Wood Buffalo resident with a home worth an estimated $1 million. Northern Alberta Athletic Association President, David Fitzgerald says sales for this year’s lottery have come in “peaks and valleys.”
“We’re getting to our final cutoff for our final draw. The more tickets we are able to sell, the more funds we are able to raise for the organization. It positions us in a good spot going forward.”
Fitzgerald says the funds raised from the contest would support the cost of running the Oil Barons team such as travel expenses, equipment purchases, and training.
Prizes
The grand prize of a million dollar home isn’t the only draw this year. Fitzgerald says there is an abundance of other prizes up for grabs.
“Obviously, the first prize is our dream home valued at just over $1 million. Then, we have some subsidiary prizes: We have vehicles as well as some ATVs.”
Those secondary prizes or cars and ATVs are worth nearly $100,000, so there is ample opportunity to win a prize.
You can buy a single ticket for $100, or if you’re feeling really lucky purchase a 3-pack of tickets for $250.
If that’s too rich for your blood, you could participate in the “Cash 50%” draw. For as low as $10, you could enter to win the guaranteed cash prize of $136,500.
Sunday, Feb. 10, at 11:59 p.m. is the cutoff to buy tickets on the Oil Barons Dream Home website with the lucky winners selected on Feb. 22, 2019.
