Rick Mercer will be coming to Fort McMurray later this year.

He’s scheduled as a keynote speaker at the Oil Sands Conference & Trade Show in September.

Paula Arnold director of marketing with EventWorx Corporation said the show is proud to be able to bring Mercer to town.

“Rick Mercer was chosen to be a Keynote Speaker during the Oil Sands Conference & Trade Show in Fort McMurray, as he is a vocal, Canadian comedic icon, that audiences appreciate.  His previous Rick Mercer Report’s Fort McMurray following the fires, and of course, for the Spread the Net Student Challenge, show Rick as a positive force in Canada.”

Wes Scott, president and CEO of EventWorx said while the event is still months away, Mercer is aware of the province’s frustrations with market access and tough economy.

“I have no doubt he will have an outstanding presentation that will leave the audience wishing for more.”

He noted there will be a book signing after his presentation.

Mercer will work with his assistant over the summer to work on other plans during his visit to the region.

Scott said they’re interested in having him visit site and to meet “the people who drive Canada’s economy forward.”

Mercer will speak in the Grand Ballroom at Shell Place from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m on Sept. 11.
