RMWB councillor Jane Stroud has joined the Alberta NDP and will run in the upcoming provincial election.
Running as a candidate for Fort McMurray-Lac La Biche, Stroud believes in Premier Rachel Notley’s investment strategy.
“Rachel Notley has laid out a clear plan to get our resources to market, and to diversify our economy, and I think the people of Fort McMurray-Lac La Biche know that is the best way forward.”
Stroud served as a councillor since 2010, and once ran to replace Brian Jean as MLA.
A heavy focus will be placed the NDP’s work on pipeline construction. Stroud says a majority of national support is owed in part to Notley’s efforts.
“We need to get that pipeline to international market. The revenue that we’ll get back will be invested in new schools, hospitals, and sustainability for our region.”
Curtailment and the new Crude-by-Rail plan are some of the policies the government enacted.
Once there is a formal announcement or writ for an election date, Jane Stroud will take a leave of absence from the RMWB council to focus on her campaign.
“I met so many people over the years in Fort McMurray-Lac La Biche, and people know that I’m a hard worker and will stand up for what’s best for our community. Albertans have a choice: A choice between the big cuts of the Conservatives or to keep investing with Rachel [Notley].”
Meanwhile, local public school board trustee Stephen Drover will candidate in the Fort McMurray-Wood Buffalo riding for the Alberta NDP.
