A happy ending to what could have been a tragic tale.

As a family detoured to a rest stop near Mariana Lake on Friday, their 8 lb. family dog jumped out of the truck.

Kayla Snooks said it took about 15 minutes before her siblings Grace and Jesse noticed the dog, named Star, wasn’t with them.

“Star jumped out behind them, but they didn’t realize. When they got back in the car, they thought Star had jumped up in the front with Grace and Grace thought she was still in the back.”

She said they turned around immediately but didn’t see any tracks or sign of Star.

It turns out a truck driver, Rick Ramm, chose the same spot to check his tires when the dog ran up to him barking.

“Between the four of us we got her cornered and grabbed her up. I said I was just going to look after her overnight and check with the SPCA the next morning.”

By the time he met up with the same guys from the rest stop the next day, one of them said he saw a post on Facebook that the dog was missing.

Ramm called Kayla the next afternoon and said he “might have something she was looking for.”

Kayla said she immediately started to cry and that Star is now home and “perfect.”
