FMSPCA Sweet Treats Day raised almost $9,000

On Valentines Day the Fort McMurray SPCA (FMSPCA) hosted their annual Pawsitively Sweet Treats Day and raised $8,939.57 for animals in need.

FMSPCA Executive Director, Arianna Johnson told MyMcMurray that they were able to raise over $7,000 more than they did last year as the organization was still recovering from the 2016 wildfire.

This year’s event was made successful by 24 volunteer bakers who made over 1,500 baked goods that were sold at 14 different community hosts.  People also visited the shelter to purchased the baking and make donations on behalf of their valentines.

All of the proceeds will help rehabilitate and care for animals who have been abused, abandoned or are in need of shelter and a forever home.

“To take care of the medical and nutrition needs of the animals and general shelter operations,” said Johnson.

The FMSPCA has a number of other fundraisers coming up including their walk for animals on April 28.

“We are always in need of general volunteers,” said Johnson. “You can find signups on our website… we have Winky Day in June and Locked in a Kennel coming up in June, or you can just drop in any day, Tuesday to Sunday from 12:30 to 7:30 p.m. to help us out with walking our dogs and cuddling our cats.”

Among their current animals up for adoptation is Jaxx, a five-year-old Sheppard Cross who has been in the shelter since June 16, 2018.
