Council recognizes day for elimination of racial discrimination

Mayor Don Scott proclaimed March 21, 2019, as the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination in Wood Buffalo.

Designated by the General Assembly of the United Nations, Council unanimously recognized the day.

Members of the Regional Advisory Committee on Inclusion, Diversity, and Equality (RACIDE) and Wood Buffalo Equity Coalition were on hand.

Both groups promote awareness, understanding, and inclusivity through diversity in Wood Buffalo.

“The Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo is committed to building a welcoming and inclusive community where all people have equal opportunity and treatment.” Mayor Scott said. “Every resident of the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo has the right to realize their full potential regardless of race, colour, national or ethnic origin, and be treated with respect and dignity.”
