Kenney, opposition unveil platforms in wake of election announcement
Alberta’s opposition parties unveiled their platforms once Premier Rachel Notley dropped the writ.
Making his first official campaign appearance, United Conservative Party (UCP) leader Jason Kenney spoke at an Edmonton-area energy company.
“In this election, Albertans have a chance to vote for change that will get this province back to work, create jobs, build pipelines, while fighting for a fair deal for Alberta, and that’s exactly what we will do.”
Furthermore, Kenney linked Notley with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau for bringing in the provincial carbon tax.
“The key question in this election is: Which team can get our economy back to work and create jobs, fight most effectively to get pipelines built, stand up to Justin Trudeau and those attacking Alberta, [and] fight for a fair deal for Alberta?”
Party platforms
Meanwhile, David Khan and his Alberta Liberal party also addressed Notley’s announcement as Khan unveiled his party’s platform on Twitter.
Additionally, post-secondary education and vaccinations are part of Stephen Mandel and his Alberta Party’s platform.
UCP leader Jason Kenney also made election pledges in recent weeks.

They include scrapping the provincial carbon tax, lowering the minimum wage, creating a tax cut for employers, and introducing electoral reforms.
Wrapping up his speech, Kenney asked Albertans to choose his party.
“If Albertans give us their confidence, we will work every day, without relent, to get Alberta back to work, to be the best place in North America to live, work, start a business, and raise a family. An Alberta that is strong and free!”
Consequently, the date of the provincial election is April 16, 2019.
