A tough subject to discuss in our region is wildfires and wildfire prevention.

Before you venture into the boreal forest this spring, Wildfire Alberta wants you to check and double check your winter burns.

Snow is a great insulator, so fires left to smoulder underneath may re-emerge as the weather warms and snow melts.

Check on your pile to make sure they are out.

Spread and soak the remains of your burn pile with water.

The pile shouldn’t generate any more heat or smoke. If the area is cold to the touch, you’re in the clear.
