Election signs have started popping up around town.

As of Monday morning, United Conservative Party (UCP) candidates Laila Goodridge and Tany Yao already had signs up along the highway.

Goodridge earned the UCP nomination in the May 2018 byelection and was elected as MLA of Fort McMurray-Conklin in July 2018.

That riding changed to Fort McMurray-Lac La Biche, a nomination she won the following October.

Throughout her riding she said most people are concerned about jobs, the economy and the carbon tax.

“I think the number one thing is getting out there and hearing what the people of Fort McMurray-Lac La Biche want from their representatives. Fighting for our oil and gas sector, fighting for pipelines, getting rid of the carbon tax. Those are the overwhelming issues I’m hearing at the door.”

She added that she’s heard positive feedback about the UCP’s policy proposal to reduce tax for employers and to create thousands of jobs province-wide.

When asked if she felt recent negative press would affect her campaign she said she’s focusing on her own campaign.

Allegations recently came forward that Jason Kenney ran a bogus leadership campaign in 2017. Calgary-Mountain View candidate Caylan Ford was also recently accused of making white supremacist comments.

She expects her campaign office at 10020 Franklin Ave. to be open in the coming days.
