The Alberta NDP and United Conservative Party released their full platforms last weekend and one thing is for sure, they want you to be afraid of the other party.

Rachel Notley and Jason Kenney laid out several promises in their platforms but spent a lot of time and energy pointing fingers and attacking the other.

Notley accused Kenney of being stuck in the past.

“He wants to do nothing to prepare our economy and society for a changing future.”

On the flip side, Kenney says that Albertans want to see a government that won’t mismanage the economy.

“They want a government that will stand up and fight for Alberta, they want a government that is obsessed with job creation.”

Kenney and the UCP unveiled their platform which is 117 pages long.

“We want to be open and transparent with Albertans about our plan.”

While Notley may not have a platform that extensive, she is promising something that politicians have tried for decades: diversifying the economy by processing oil at home.

“We will stop shipping our jobs to Texas and keep them here in Alberta.”

All of the political finger pointing is, unfortunately, hiding a lot of the key campaign promises.

Both party leaders promise to balance the budget by 2023 when the provincial debt is expected to hit $100 billion.

They’re also pledging to reduce wait times for surgical procedures.

Both leaders continue their campaigns Monday as Notley makes an announcement in Calgary and Kenney speaks to supporters in Edmonton.

Meanwhile, Alberta Party leader Stephen Mandel and Liberal leader David Khan will also be in Calgary making key platform announcements.
