Wood Buffalo is thinking about two things this month: Election and taxes.

The former takes place on April 16, 2019, while Council tackles the latter tomorrow night.

Tax season

Council will review last year’s financial statements, grants, and the Municipality’s cash flow.

Mayor and council already took a significant step in resolving their debt situation in their previous meeting.

A representative from the chartered accounting firm, Deloitte, shall present their findings from their audit as well.

Also, the Wood Buffalo Regional Library and Wood Buffalo Housing will make presentations.

Wildfire recovery

The wildfire is a difficult subject to revisit.

However, Wood Buffalo’s financial outlook is positive.

The council made special consideration for this in their quarterly report for 2018.

It includes cost breakdown, disaster recovery, and the region’s budget position.

Downtown revitalization

Finally, the council will receive an update on the development of the Lower Townsite.

As the population builds, the RMWB expects more consultation with residents about their next steps.

Council voted to conduct a feasibility study on Shell Place as well as for a similar structure in the downtown core.

Council will also consider a motion from Mayor Don Scott.

It asks that administration explore the prospect of a code of conduct bylaw amendment, which may include a registry for lobbyists.
