The United Conservative Party (UCP) has lots to celebrate following wins locally and provincially.
Tany Yao will be our MLA for Fort McMurray-Wood Buffalo, and Laila Goodridge will be our MLA for Fort McMurray-Lac La Biche.
Goodridge, who was all smiles Tuesday night, said she’s eager to start working with the new UCP government.
“It’s truly humbling to be re-elected here to represent this fantastic riding of Fort McMurray-Lac La Biche and I look forward to rolling up my sleeves and getting started tomorrow.”
When asked whether she may be a minister in the cabinet, Goodridge said she’s focused on being the strongest possible representative for her riding.
Yao, who is the former health critic, said it’s been a long, hard four years and he’s happy to be on the winning side.
“I’m glad that the citizens, the people here in my community have entrusted me to represent them for four more years and I hope to do a bang up job of that.”
Yao said he’ll continue to fight for healthcare and education in our region.
“I guarantee this: you will have a loud, loud, strong voice here trying to get us the things that we need to make our community grow and thrive.”
During the provincial campaign NDP Leader Rachel Notley often referred to controversial comments made by UCP Leader Jason Kenney about the LGBTQ community.
Yao said he doesn’t understand why the LGBTQ feels threatened by his party and that outreach will continue for all communities.
Goodridge said she has many friends who are a part of the LGBTQ community and that she believes it’s “important to be an advocate and an ally for people that are facing bullying and harassment.”
