On the week of the anniversary of the Horse River wildfire, Alberta Wildfire announced the wildfire threat level for our region is moderate.

The area around Fort McMurray and Fort Chipewyan remains at risk due to dry, grassy areas.

Campfires pose a risk for starting or contributing to wildfires.

Alberta Wildfire says extinguish campfires by soaking them with water, stirring them, and soaking again.

Fully extinguished campfires are cool to the touch.

If not properly extinguished, embers or warm spots underneath debris could fuel a future wildfire.

As always, check the conditions on your fire permit and follow safety guidelines.

For more information, call the Fort McMurray Forestry Office at (780) 743-7125.

Wildfire season this year began on March 1, 2019.
