An early morning fire on Wednesday has destroyed a home on Killdeer Way.
The only person in the home was sleeping at the time and was woken by fire alarms in the home.
He was able to get out of the house safely and was assessed and treated at the scene for minor smoke inhalation.
Regional Fire Chief Jody Butz said Regional Emergency Services (RES) was notified by the homeowner’s home security alarm company around 5 a.m.
“We show up and it’s actually ‘wow’ the house is on fire. The system worked. The system saved this guy’s life today.”
While RES was responding to what they thought was just a security alarm, Butz said they always arrive prepared for a fire.
There was another house fire Monday on Beacon Hill Dr. and everyone was able to escape safely, but the home suffered major damage.
Butz said the cause of both fires are still under investigation and there’s no connection that he’s aware of.
