The Fort McMurray Oil Barons have announced that Dave Dupas will serve as the team’s head coach and general manager.

Oil Barons President David Fitzgerald said Dupas has played a key role in recruitment efforts and has a strong network within Western Canada’s Midget programs.

“As an organization, we are confident that Dave will continue to build on the strong history the Oil Barons have established in junior hockey and in our community.”

Dupas has held the position on an interim basis since the organization announced they would part ways with Tom Keca earlier this month.

He said he looks forward to continuing the “winning culture” of the Oil Barons next season.

“Before coming to Fort McMurray, I knew the Oil Barons were a first-class organization and one of the most respected Junior A programs in Western Canada.”

Dupas brings over 15 years of Junior A coaching experience, including the past four years as assistant coach with the Barons.

Before joining the organization, Dupas played junior hockey and later professional hockey in California before serving as the head coach of the BCHL’s Prince George Spruce Kings
