Imperial applies for pilot project north of Fort McMurray

Imperial Oil has applied to the Alberta Energy Regulator (AER) for approval of a pilot project about 45 km north of town.
The application is for the construction, operation and reclamation of the Enhanced Bitumen Recovery Technology (EBRT) Pilot Project: Experimental Scheme.
The project will be used to validate and optimize a new thermal solvent in situ recovery technology developed by the company.

If approved, the project, which would connect to Aspen facilities, would include a well pad, a solvent recovery system, production and injection wells, observation wells, and infrastructure like pipelines, roads and power lines.
Statements of concern can be sent to the AER until 4 p.m. on June 16.
