A motor vehicle collision north of the city that closed the roadway to Albian Sands (CNRL) resulted in two fatalities.

Wood Buffalo RCMP reported a truck collided head-on with a semi-tractor on Highway 63 at 1:20 p.m. on May 23, 2019.

The truck was travelling northbound in the southbound lane at the time of the collision.

RCMP along with emergency services responded to the scene of the incident.

However, the lone occupants of each vehicle, a 56-year-old man from Prince Edward Island, and 40-year-old man from Nova Scotia were pronounced dead at the scene.

Police diverted traffic around the area for several hours while a Collision Analyst from the RCMP conducted an investigation.

RCMP will not release the names of the deceased.

Furthermore, no updates are available at this time.
